Entry Description:

Tableware Sculptures - Bucchero

The production of paper is a fleeting enterprise, used almost entirely for spreading information or for packaging. Countless forests today are flattened to live up to this demand. Siba views paper in a different light: instead of a means to an end, she sees paper as a valuable, durable material to revive our cultural inheritance. The series portayed is inspired by the characteristic black Bucchero wares of ancient Etruscan ceramics. The series comprises several pieces - carafes, goblets and cups - which are hand-crafted from paper. This new use for paper allows the viewer to see an everyday product from a different angle, no longer as something to be taken for granted. The time and care invested in the develpment of these objects confronts today throwawaway culture.
