Recycling carpets "mulet" (rag pickers in Romansh)
Recycling is not an invention of modernity. In the Middle Ages fabric scraps were collected to make paper, yet today the idea of reusing the seemingly worthless materials is still fascinating.
For us as teppich-art-team (carpet-art team) it has been a constant challenge to be inspired from the ingenuity of waste collectors and recycling craftsmen from around the world. From a wide range of material we create design products that are able to convince both aesthetically and technically. We remain true to our design principle, constantly searching for the primordial and simple. Used materials such as jute bags, bicycle tubes, military wool fabrics, recycled yarns and newsprints have been transformed to create a wide selection of carpets.
In addition to carpets made from recycled materials we have developed yarn carpet filfil 2. This new material consists of a coil cord which was braided with dozens of colourful yarn wastes. Through the rhythm of the different yarn bindings, a unique textured carpet surface is formed.
The unification of design, environmental and social aspects are important to us. Our carpets are manufactured primarily in social institutions, such as prisons. Thus, we weave the recycling thoughts with a social commitment. Art and creation through consciousness.
