Entry Title: "
West Village Square- UC Davis"
Category: Professional, Public
Designer(s): Studio E Architects
West Village Square is Americas largest zero-net-energy community and proves that high density and sustainability can comfortably coexist. The project is an expression of UC Davis values of community and responsibility. Sustainable design is achieved through solar panels placed on south-facing roofs and energy efficient features, which in turn reduce energy requirements. Buildings employ an exceptionally well- insulated envelope, extensive shading, ventilated facades and large overhangs, as well as efficient lighting and appliances. The 80 units (providing 130 beds) are designed for upper-division and graduate students and are sized for independent living. An extensive variety of amenities are offered at the recreation building on the Village Square.
