The Tyree Energy Technologies Building is the focus of the University of New South Wales leading-edge Centre for Energy Research and Policy Analysis. Situated on the gateway site on the main Kensington campusat the junction of the Mall and Anzac Paradethis GBCA 6 Star Green Star Design project represents world leadership in environmentally sustainable building practices.
Characterised by a dramatic profiled roof and terracotta facade, it achieves a synthesis of architecture and landscape through a rich interweave of built form and landscape, modulating space and light.
The building features expansive atria and overlapping spaces to improve circulation and foster collaboration, and vistas open to the landscape and campus beyond and heighten the visibility of the occupants.
From the outset, the building was designed with environmental sustainability paramount, complementing the Universitys clean energy research. The facility integrates innovative environmental systems and sustainable design philosophies in a flexible state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratory building across five-and-a-half levels (approximately 15,000sqm) that includes flexible laboratory modules (some clean rooms and PC2 compliant), a series of formal and informal collaboration spaces, administrative spaces, teaching and learning spaces, engineering workshops, engineering research display spaces and a cafe.
