Entry Description:

Folding FARM II
[A Farm-to-Market Portable Produce Pavilion]

Folding Farm II (FFII) is a \"green\" produce transport vehicle and a deployable farm stand. It represents the modification of Folding Farm I, a working prototype conceived in 2012 as a bicycle-powered delivery system and market display for locally grown and sold produce. The next generation FFII, currently in development, decreases the body-weight of the structure while focusing on reducing the construction costs of the first prototype.

Folding Farm II delivers to, and displays produce for local marketplaces. It becomes a demonstrable design solution that serves an emblem for the environmental transformation of the local community. It reduces transport carbon emissions and acts as a movable billboard for local market goods.

The structural body is constructed from standard tubular sections of steel and aluminum. Laced into the aluminum canopy frame is a white tarp-fabric that provides both signage and shade for the displayed vegetables. It incorporates standard plastic farm-grade vegetable bins, which means that the produce can be cleaned and immediately packaged on the farm, eliminating handling at the market.
